Momma Never Told Me

An Evening at the Loser Table

Last night I attended an event that gave away about a million door prizes. All were great prizes too!

Rounds of golf at posh courses, furniture, spa days, golf equipment, a trip to St, Augustine to visit the Golf Hall of Fame, gift certificates to marvelous restaurants, sports and theater tickets, more trips to resorts in lovely locations, huge gift baskets overflowing with goodies....... it went on and on. The top prize was a week in a condo in Orlando to visit Disney or whatever! It was amazing.

Number after number was called. All around us in the cavernous ballroom excited people popped up to claim their terrific gift! At first we looked at each other, amused and laughing at a couple of close numbers. We wistfully decided which gifts we would rather win instead of another golf club or a not needed sofa.

But, as time passed without any winners at our table, we stopped smiling. Slowly we began to realize that we were all losers and we were sitting at the loser table.

No Peeking Or You'll Go Blind!

Yesterday, after cleaning our shower up and down and sideways, I installed one of those handy-dandy shower cleaners. You know, it's the one they advertise on TV that's supposed to be like having four or five maids scrubbing the soap scum from your shower???

I just had to have one of those new things! Yes, sirreeeeeee. No more spray bottles for me.

After my shower, I stepped out --- all wet and dripping --- and I pressed the bright blue button on the little caddy hanging from the nozzle. I shut the curtain and began drying off. The timer beeped as it started counting down to begin shooting out the cleaner 360 degrees over our entire shower stall.

Finally, the spraying started. It was working! After being amazed that I had put it together right, I wanted to see it in action. What was it doing behind the wet shower curtain? So I had to sneak a peek!

Yep, you guessed it. That thing shot me right in the face, between the eyes with it's powerful stinky cleaner!!!

I screamed and hopped up and down --- chemicals dripping from my face and chest --- and I made it to my bathroom sink. I threw water all over me and the counter while trying to get that burning stuff off my skin!

Since I survived, I wanted to warn all you other nosy Streamers, that sometimes it's best not to find out what's going on behind the curtain!

 Weekend Hand Jive Five

1. My Westward Ho! travel journal turned out to be a big yawn, so don't expect to be reading any of my boring stories about the weather and the price of gas in 2003. You can thank me later.

2. In a flash, most of my house plants have died! I don't understand the mystery of growing green things.  Maybe plants lose faith in their care giver?

3. Hubby & I really like the new TNT show, "Saving Grace." It's about a slutty cop, played by the talented Holly Hunter, who has an winged angel named Earl trying to save her. Good Luck, Earl!

4. Once again, a product we liked has disappeared from the grocery store shelves. It's like the TV shows now --- if the numbers aren't high enough --- out it goes! This time we've said good-bye to Nestea's Peach Green Tea.

5. I'm as excited as a little girl --- my first art show of eleven new paintings are hanging in a gallery for all to see! The series is called "Emotions" and the opening reception will be next Friday during a downtown art gallery crawl.

Have a wonderful weekend, Streamers! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

 Cemetery Thinking

As I walked in the past today,

through winding paths of carved stones,

huge trees shaded overhead

cooling the graves of those long gone.

Huge trees with roots pushing all aside,

loved ones no one remembers,

granite and marbles cracked,

memories forgotten

and tears now dried.

Resting in their purchased piece of eternity

they sleep not knowing these things;

ashes to ashes,

dust to dust.

My choice is to give my ashes wings!
