Momma Never Told Me

 Monday's Silly Question: Found Money

If you found a stash of cash, what would you do with it?

The hardest choice would be whether to tell anyone or not. You could report it, like the volunteer who found $5,000 in the pocket of a donated piece of clothing. A note with the money told whoever found it to put the money to good use. I naturally assumed the thrift store would keep the extra cash, but no, it was given to the person who found it! She started a college fund for her children with the windfall.

So what would you have done, Streamer?

"I'd like to open up a joint account with someone who has money." said the blond to the banker. "Or just enough to tide me over until I can get a credit card!"

 Boob Tube Bob

All the hoopla about Bob Barker retiring after fifty years in show business has brought back early TV memories for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of The Price is Right over the years, but I did watch it off and on, usually when I was sick and stuck at home. It was surprising to read that lots of college kids love The Price is Right and Bob Barker! Recently, I watched a few of his last shows because of the interest surrounding his long career on the boob tube. Bob started on television before my family even got a TV! To me, it seems he's always been on the airwaves making people laugh.

My first memories of Bob Barker were from his crazy show Truth or Consequences. Our family watched it on the tiny black and white set --- all shows were done in that cheap format in those days, especially the game shows. But I thought it was hilarious because adults were doing silly things, like racing to stack plates, just to win prizes. I could never imagine my parents doing some of those wacky races and contests like on Truth or Consequences! Now the game shows are much more complicated and more suspenseful than funny.

Thanks, smiling Bob, for all the homegrown entertainment over the last fifty years and for your charity work with PETA.

 It All Went Black

As a fan of HBO's Sopranos, I agree that the ending was disappointing. At first I thought the cable went out --- then I looked at my innocent hubby --- thinking surely he had done something! Nope, the show was just over!!!

My husband believed it ended on a high note with all the family gathered together for a meal at their favorite restaurant.

We each see what we want to see, I suppose, because I thought it ended on a low note since the screen went totally black. To me that meant that Tony was no more --- killed by the mob by the unseen, unheard bullet. We viewers shared Tony's secret that he hated his life and so it had to end violently.

Now that I've reflected on the ending --- two people seeing two different things --- it must mean that the ending worked! It was my first "choose your own" finale.

 Monday's Silly Question: Scary Movies

What was the first movie that scared the heebie-jeebies out of you?

The very first movie I remember as being extremely scary to my inexperienced brain was "The Blob." I must have had a deep-seated fear of drowning in red jello because I've seen bits of that movie in recent years and it's hilarious!!! Special effects were lame in those days, so the "blog" looked like a giant booger! The monster was so slow moving that I could have outran the quivering mass any day of the week. Back then, I was a "hit & run" terror on the recess playground!

My movie book tells me that the film was Steve McQueen's first starring role, so maybe my heart was beating faster for some other reason! Also, the book says the classic is still fun to watch even thought the remake in 1988 gets a higher rating. When the original movie was released in 1958, I was just a kid so I can be excused for bring terrorized by a gelatinous creature from outer space. Thankfully, or unthankfully, most movie's frightening visions have improved tremendously today.
