Momma Never Told Me

 True Confessions from CNN

Okay, I really didn't have that surgery..........

I'm the 60 year old mother who just gave birth to twin boys!!!

But I'm not sure who the father is because I was involved with a set of male twins ---- so one is the uncle and one is the daddy! Don't you think they both should pay?

Don't worry though, Streamers, Jerry Springer has promised to help me sort this mess out. Wish me luck! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

 Hanging On

"When you are young, you don't even think about friendship. You take it for granted, because your friends are just your friends" says Jeanne Cochrane. She continues, "But as you grow older, you realize how valuable friendship really is, and the fact that it could end. Some of us will be gone, sooner than the others. You realize how temporary life is and how you must savor what you have."

Agree? Yes, I do too.

Wisdom does come while we're growing older. The above quote is from an article about a group of women who began meeting together each Friday for lunch over 50 years ago! Most of the ladies now are in their 80's and 90's. They've shared a lot of happiness and sadness together because that's what friends do.

Keep your friends close and your best friends closer, Streamers! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

Out of Reach, But Not On the Beach

I had surgery last Wednesday and during the hospital stay, I had some very strong drugs floating from the IV and into my body to numb the pain. It worked perfectly and, even though I seemed okay, my dreams were filled with an obsession of touch. I imagined I was always using my hands!

Every drug-induced sleep and catnap had me holding something --- phone, basket, book, page, pen --- it didn't matter what. I would hold it and turn it over and around in my hands, feeling each surface of the object, enjoying its texture. It was so real, but I'd wake up and look at my surprisingly empty and idle hands, resting in front of me on the bed.

What does it mean? Probably nothing --- my brain was fixating on my tactile sense. It was amazing how each item felt so solid and real, but the sensations were only memories stored somewhere in my jumbled brain.

I'm home now and doing just fine. For those Streamers who knew, thanks for the extra prayers --- they worked! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

 A Real BuzzKill

What would you do to save a life?

Buzznet is a way to give $10 to buy a mosquito net to help protect African families. A family of four can sleep under a bed net effectively for up to four years.

The purpose of a global grassroots campaign called "Nothing But Nets" is to save lives by preventing malaria which is carried by those pesky blood-sucking mosquitoes.

It's such a small thing --- but a thin piece of material can mean the difference between life and death! Unbelievably, millions of people die each year and that means a child is lost every 30 seconds!

Check out the web site and view the video at: http://www.nothingbutnets.net/ and hopefully you'll agree with me --- this is an amazing way to spend only $10!!!  Make a donation and/or buy a tee-shirt, but don't miss this opportunity to change the world, Streamers, one NET at a time! ~~~ Hugs, Rita B

 Where Did the Love Go?

Love has left them many years ago. Now in all directions they spew bitter words. Love left and hid, whimpering under a table, cowering in the dark like a mangy dog --- never again to receive a welcomed pat on the head.

Why? What brings people together only to lock them into an insidious circle of nitpicking day in and day out? Who would choose to live that way forever? What void does this flaunted hatred fill? Questions, unanswered by me, for sure, and these two "lovebirds" would probably be shocked at how they appear to others in the wake of their personal typhoon.

Together they have nurtured and grown a beast of enormous proportions that needs to be constantly fed the rotting crumbs of a relationship. Like clawing leopards their slicing words scrape and rake at each other's flesh and bystanders better duck to avoid the bits of anima sprayed with each verbal attack.

Where are their words of compassion and tenderness? Where is their devotion from sharing a long life together? Instead of acceptance from the intimate knowledge of living with someone, their familiarity is used to fling hostility, charging the very air around them with the electricity of hatred. We outsiders feel repelled and want to run the other way, fearing the contamination might spread and choke out our joy of life.

I knew them when love sparkled from their eyes and their lips dripped of honey and kisses. I was there when they pledged their love to each other forever. "Forever" now means being locked in an unending cycle of abusive destruction! So I ask again, where did the love go?
