Momma Never Told Me
Thursday March 29, 2007
I gave blood again today!
If you can give the gift of life, do it soon. There's always a need.
Last time I was turned away because I was anemic from dieting, but not after taking vitamins for months. And I drank lots of water today so it went fast and I feel fine. | | Posted by Rita B at 6:41 PM -

A wise one told me to listen so I could hear
the seasons changing from year to year.
So I sat down under a shady canopy,
turned on my senses to hear, look, and see.
First to be heard was the unfurling fern,
tightly curled in the yellow-green shade.
Then softly sighing blossoms slowly spread
their colors like sweet music being made.
A leaf bud whispered for the tree to awake
and dream the dream of being in spring.
Above rustled a stirring of lifeblood juices,
from the humming bees to young sapling trees.
My silent intrusion went almost unnoticed
by heavy-lidded eyes and sleepy winter wings.
Feeling out of place, but totally at home,
while sitting in the circle of holy living things. | | Posted by Rita B at 11:23 PM -

I had an eye-opener a week ago Sunday. I think I can say, it was life-changing. All my past thinking about aging has been shot to Hades and back. Some of you may have read the March 18th article in Sunday's Parade Magazine "You Can Stop "Normal" Aging" and will agree with how mind-blowing it was.
I'm literally a different Rita than when I started blogging a year and a half ago. With one percent of our cells being replaced daily and our bodies almost completely remaking itself over in a period of three months --- none of us are the same! Only a few key stem cells and our brain cells stay our entire life. That's how we keep our feelings and memories and whatever else that makes us who we are. By adolescence, we have all our fat cells and we either pump them up or let the "fat air" out of them!
As scary as it sounds, this is a good thing. We are in charge of changing ourselves and we have the chance of living "out your life in a powerful healthy body, IF you are willing to put in the work."
Now, I was foolish enough to believe that once we started aging, we get weaker and there was no sense in fighting it. We were doomed to be a giant marshmallow in our lounge chair --- so why worry about it? Well, the reason is, simply, that it's never to late to get stronger, get in better shape, get healthier, and age slower.
That is amazing to me!
The Godfather of Fitness, Jack La Lanne, knew it.
If we don't move and exercise, our cells pass on the message to decay and rot. But if you lead an active lifestyle the cells work toward growth and renewal. Motion controls our system. To exercise is a choice, so you must decide if you want to be weaker or stronger in only three months. Staying in the best shape possible will give a person a much better chance of fighting off a disease if it strikes. Even a person who has an illness, can still improve themselves to their healthiest peak.
This is dedicated to Pretty Rubble because of her recent writings about looking forward to her next birthday and hoping to improve herself. She's wise to decide to be in the best shape of her life! Never give up!!!
I was wrong big time --- we don't have to accept aging decay. Our biology says we can change. Change is always hard, but life is a moving experience! So let's get moving, Streamers........

*** When men say they "need their space," it really means "it's over, sweetie!" Sorry, ladies, but apparently this IS true. It took the experts long enough to translate "male-speak." Too late for me.
*** Comedian Chris Rock's new movie "I Think I Love My Wife" is being panned by critics. They say the acting, writing, and directing are terrible --- and poor Chris did all three! I really like Chris from his SNL days and hope this doesn't slow him down.
*** Hand-stitched lace makers in Russian, who once made doilies and table runners for altars, now use their skills to make lace panties, G-strings, thongs and bras to sell worldwide. Blessed are those who have lace underwear!
*** "Last night I was yelling..... "I haven't had sex in three and a half months!" " said Regis Philbin, complaining about lack of sleep and other symptoms from the strong painkillers he's taking after heart by-pass surgery.
*** Love letters bought on E-Bay and written by a loving couple during World War II, made the romantic new owners search for the pair. They never tracked down the man, but found out about the woman --- she had never married and never heard from the man again after the war. Maybe he never made it home.
*** I'm a sucker for a love story and this time The Bachelor will have a Naval officer searching for love. Recently he admitted that he did indeed find true love and they are very happy! Three of the past couples are still together, so it's possible. I'll be watching with particular interest since an officer and gentleman swept me off my feet many years ago!
Today's post is dedicated to all the lovers in the Stream!!!

1. "Whatever is produced in haste goes hastily to waste." Saadi
This is probably true. I've bought some things that were not made very good and they soon were useless! It is true that you get what you pay for most of the time.
2. "The freethinking of one age is the common sense of the next." Matthew Arnold (1822-1888)
I agree with this idea too. As years go by, we often change our minds about what is the best way of doing things. Usually, because we learn better methods from personal experiences.
3. "What we play is life." Louis Armstrong (1900-1971)
Of course, a musician would believe this! Especially Louis Armstrong because he poured his soul into his music and it showed. I'm sure his music was his life! He could've used more cowbell, though.
4. "The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance." Socrates (469 BC - 399 BC)
I'm not totally sold on this statement. Education is the key to ridding the world of ignorance, and it would solve many of our problems, but I wouldn't call the lack of it "evil." Of course, the "ignorance is bliss" quote always bothered me too. I think ignorance comes from apathy and that is one thing I do abhor.
5. "The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook." William James (1842 - 1910)
Okay, this one is to my liking! As I get older, I find more and more things I am willing to overlook. That must mean I'm getting wiser! Yeah, it's been a long time coming........
