My Momma did it and lots of people do --- parking lot driving!
After living in a place for a long time, we locals find the shortest way to anything in town. Like cutting through parking lots and other areas just to get out of waiting at a traffic light for the two hundredth time in less than a week.
I've found out that if I drive behind our mall, I can avoid four stop lights! On a bad karma day I could be stopped by each one and be bored to death in a matter of minutes.
Heck, I've even been known to drive the wrong way through a bank drive-thru window just to cut out a stoplight or two!
