Momma Never Told Me

 What a Way to Go

Yesterday, I sang in the choir at a happy funeral. At least most of us thought it was --- even though, I'm sure, the family will miss their patriarch in the coming years.

This gentleman was almost 90 years old. On the day of his death he played a round of golf with his buddies. He and his wife had a wonderful lunch together and then spent the afternoon planning on their trip they were about to take. Their bags were packed in anticipation.

That evening they both attended the opening of a new section of one of the local hospitals. He saw and talked with hundreds of friends. My husband saw him too and they spent a few minutes together. He was smiling and chipper.

As he and his wife were ready for bed, they kissed and said their usual "I Love You"'s after 62 years of marriage. Then he laid down and was gone! Just like that. What a way to go --- on a happy day.

He was expecting a trip, just not this one. By all accounts, he was a good man. He was a funeral director who helped many families in times of grief. His life was full of blessings and his death was a peaceful one.

 God in the Puzzle

Crossword puzzles are a great way to spend a few minutes of any day. They help me remember spelling and it's supposed to help keep our brains sharp.

Some are too hard --- you best know obscure literature, global geography, world currency and foreign languages before completing many of these twisters. And not fair, in sudoku, you only have to know the numbers one through nine!!!

My crossword puzzle choices are so much easier, but for years I've noticed that most of the movie stars and musicians used in these are from long ago eras. I can barely answer them --- most of us don't watch those ancient black & white movies and shows anymore. Ida Lupino? Ira Gershwin? Nick & Nora's dog's name?? Are crossword puzzles made only by old people? For extremely old people?

Every so often my name will appear --- usually in reference to Rita Moreno. She's what....... 70? Well, she's one of the young chickies mentioned in these easy puzzles!

My shock today was a crossword puzzle where "God" was one of the fill-in words. "Who is Omnipotent?" See what I mean? You can't get any older than that!

 Screwed

The other day an unknown vehicle dropped a box of sheet-metal screws on Interstate 77 causing dozens of cars to have flat tires within a ten mile stretch. The poor motorists were all over the road.

"It's like Lowe's Motor Speedway out here!" a NASCAR fan excitedly exclaimed.

 Small Town Stars

The other day the world's largest Bojangle's restaurant opened up in our fair village! It was a major thrill, but we are used to thrills here in middle North Carolina.

You see, we've had Jay Bee's, restaurant of the World's Famous Hot Dog for many years. Recently, Gourmet Magazine listed it in the top ten restaurants --- I suppose in the Gourmet Hot Dog Category? Is that even possible???

Fiddle-de-dee, that doesn't compare to our current fame. Yesterday, there was a George Clooney sighting at the uptown bicycle shop! Then he was spotted at Cafe Sayess for lunch. Naturally I was shopping out of town. We locals know the movie company has rented the Historic Vance Hotel, which closed a few years ago from lack of business. I'll have to plan a drive-by swooning soon.

Oh, fudge, now I'm going to have to LOOK GOOD all the time! It's a pain in my sit-upon, but I'm sure George is out there somewhere hoping to run into the woman of his dreams. The least I can do is look good for Georgie-Boy, right, Streamers?
