 Is That You Vern?

Happy Vernal Equinox to all! Today's full moon marks the beginning of spring and the point of equal balance between light and dark. This full moon is known as the Worm Moon!

Today is Good Friday with a beautiful Easter morn greeting us this coming Sunday.

May everyone enjoy the first springtime weekend of 2008!

 Get Along Howling Doggies

First off, my husband and I love dogs --- for the most part they are one of God's friendliest creatures. But recently we took the time to go outside to look at the moon and stars, reveling in the lovely night sky. We only went to the top of our driveway, then into the middle of the street to get a better view.

By the time we got to the top of our driveway, the neighbor's little yapper was barking. Then the dog across the street started a mournful howling, quickly followed by more barking, baying and more howling around our small neighborhood! The next neighborhood's dogs began joining the racket --- making for an unpleasant experience echoing back and forth across the valley. Hearing the other dogs barking, our neighborhood canines took on a different tone, sounding more vicious, until we had to go back inside. It was just too much --- we couldn't even enjoy a quiet look at the clear sky!

For the most part, I don't like walking in our neighborhood anymore. It stirs up the dogs too much. Even though I've lived in this house for seventeen years, I'm seen as a threat and a stranger to these barking dogs. I'm not doing anything threatening or on their property, but a couple of them would tear my throat out if they could get over their fence!

So we drive somewhere else to take a daily stroll. What a shame too because it's such a beautiful neighborhood in the springtime!

 I Can Hardly Wait!

The other day, I drove around a rather large sneaker in the middle of the road. About a mile farther, I drove past a pair of inside-out jeans at an intersection, followed by the other shoe!

I kept watching, but I had to turn off before I spotted any more discarded clothing along my route. Too bad too --- I was keeping my eyes peeled for some poor nude guy walking along the roadside! Hey, I could be helpful and give him a lift! Yeah, right.........

I had forgotten all about it by the next day, until I ran over a pair of navy blue undershorts resting beneath the traffic light! Now, I'm waiting and watching so I can give this nudist with spring fever a ride home!!!

 I Ain't No Saint

Happy Saint Patrick's Day to all those who look so good in green! May God bless you one and all.

I've got a little bit of Irish in me, having the green eyes and enough red in my hair to prove it, but I'm no saint. Usually, the name "Rita" evokes images of exuberant dancers, so I was surprised to recently find out that there actually is a Saint Rita!

Saint Rita is the famous patron saint of hopeless situations! She was a lady who lived in Italy in the 14th century. Like Saint Rita, I also married my knight in shining armor and that's where our similarities end! Her faith helped her overcome a terrible life of pain and loss, greatly inspiring others to follow her to Christianity. There's a movie about Saint Rita that I hope to see so I can learn more about this remarkable woman from the past.

Also, Happy Birthday today to my niece Ashley! Born on March 17th, she is a strong and lovely young lady, and we are very proud of her! ~~~ Love & Hugs, Rita B

 Pickin' on Chicken

Our recent family Birthday Boy picked an interesting restaurant for his celebration dinner. Everyone went "uuuuuuhhhh?" in unison, but we gave him what he wanted. The granddaughters had never been there, but I give them multiple credits for being adventurous.

Keaton's is an eating establishment were the true locals go for some mighty fine chicken! When I first "dined" there, I sat on a log under the closest tree. Everyone bought bottles drinks back then because we weren't quite sure of those spotted glasses.

I don't know when Mr. Keaton started cooking chicken but it's know far and wide as delicious. Our granddaughters ate all on their plates and more. Now it's a real restaurant with indoor plumbing and I'm proud to say their tasty chicken is ever better, if possible.

I'll bet your town has one of those special places that hangs on in spite of the onslaught of chains and fast food. Here's to the entrepreneurial spirit of America! I'm sure even Einstein would have agreed!!
