Momma Never Told Me

 In Memory Of.........

Today I was going to post something trivial, but in light of the events of yesterday, I couldn't ignore what happened. Another senseless school shooting has left our nation wondering what is wrong with our society. I have no answers. These shooters are sick and I can't understand why someone close to them doesn't recognize that fact. Since the killer is gone, we will never know fully what drove him to do such a terrible thing to the innocent children at the Amish school.

However, the family of the shooter released the following statement and I thought it was worth a second glance:

"Our hearts are broken, our lives are shattered, and we grieve for the innocence and lives that were lost today. Above all, please pray for the families who lost children and please pray too for our family and children."

I am very sad today, but we are left with hope for another day and with the comfort of prayer, friends, and family. And the WHY? We are left with the why. ~~~ Peace & Hugs, Rita B

 Professional Vampires or How About a Good Old-Fashioned Blood Letting?

Thursday I was turned down at the Red Cross Blood Mobile because I was anemic. Low-carb dieting has caused my nails to immediately break off so I wasn't too surprised to be low in iron. Anyway, the nurses still pricked and poked me a couple of times and they left the bandaids to prove it.

Up with the sun yesterday morning, my husband and I had no breakfast and went to the hospital for blood work at the lab. No problem.......... until we faced a "newbie" in the blood letting department! I was first and the woman stuck the needle into my arm without hitting a vein!! Using a giant needle that looked like a straw --- I kid you not. I swear I caught her flashing fangs at one point! The nurse training the newbie pulled it out after telling her about her big boo-boo. What about my boo-boo, I thought, with the room spinning and dissolving in front of my eyes! "You used a 1.5 gauge and you were suppose to only use a 1," I hear from the voice of nursing experience. The "real" nurse makes the newbie start over and helps her finally get three vials out of me and wraps an electric pink sticky bandage across my elbow.

My husband's next in the seat of torture, but he tells me to go on to Brookdale Coffee & Bagel and order him low-carb special of eggs-over-easy with lots of meat. Grateful I survived and relieved to get away without fainting, I'm out the door doubletime.

As I'm fixing two extra-large Snicker-Doodle coffees, in comes my hubby looking like the walking wounded! He has both arms wrapped in bright blues bandages!! The newbie had struck again and accidentally pulled the needle out of his arm, tried to jam it back in, causing him to lose lots of blood by it pooling up and dripping down his elbow. That arm was so messed that he had to endure another prodding into the vein of his other arm to finish.

Hopefully, one day newbie will become a great nurse, but until then, there'll be no more practicing on us. I've memorized her face and we will run the other way!

 Friday News & Hidden Views

~~~~~"How is it we have camera technology impressive enough to photograph a license plate from outer space, but can't get an identifiable picture from a security camera in a convenience store?" from The Buzz, but I've heard this complaint before and it's true.
~~~~~High profile people in our country, who use their "free speech" rights, receive death threats! Apparently, now we're all supposed to think alike or else? Death threats in the land of the free and the home of the brave. What's up with that, America?

~~~~~Hurrah to George Clooney and his father, Nick, for getting involved in Darfur! And a pox on those who complain about celebrities stepping up and doing something important. Why not use their status and influence for good, I say.
~~~~~Since the successful over-use of credit cards, companies are doing away with laying away items. I have fond memories of being a kid and laying away something I dearly wanted. After weeks of paying a dollar or two, it was mine........all mine! That taught me to wait for the reward. I got over it..... tee hee.

~~~~~Lastly, to the cute young guy who turned in front of me and gave me a nod and a wink --- Thanks! I was a golf widow for the day and you made me smile for awhile.
~~~~~So smile, Streamers, you might be on a hidden camera this weekend! ~~~~ Hugs, Rita
