Momma Never Told Me

 One Finger Update

My fingernail, on the finger I crushed in June, is making itself quite a pest! One side is still attached pretending nothing happened and the other side is flapping in the breeze, hooking up with anything that comes its way like a bad boy. Bandages stick to it and are not fun to pull off. It's really trying to grow out from the base even on the injured side and, wow, it hurts sometimes. Growing pains?

A friend suggested I'm going to have a claw grow out like Howard Hughes' nails! Eeek! I think it's going to grow into a never-ending circle, a unique curlicue of sorts. No matter what happens, it's taking it's good old sweet time doing it. A freaky nail is better than no nail, right? Right, Streamers?

 Brushy Mountain Apple Farm

Yesterday I went on a day trip to an apple orchard in the mountains of North Carolina. Nothing says autumn like seeing the fruits of the farmers labor! It was a beautiful fall day and these photographs will let me share the adventure with you. Enjoy the sights of the harvest!!!

A small Rome apple tree at the edge of a row.

Rome apples waiting to be picked.

  These are Arkansas Black apples.

They had a Sunflower Maze --- yes, I found my way out!

A sunflower beauty!

Queen of the Sunflowers?

The maze was quite a tangle of different types of sunflowers.

The strange shapes of the green and oranges pumpkins caught my eye.

Different types of apples wait for a buyer. The delicious Galas were in, but I bought a bag of Jonagolds!

I love the fall colors of the chrysanthemums.

The big orange pumpkins remind me that Halloween is only a month away.

One season melts into another and all we can do is watch it happen and embrace the change!  ~~~ Hugs, Streamers! ~~~ Rita B

 With Onions, Please!

Sleeping in yesterday morning, my dream changed to searching for food. I was trying to buy a hamburger! I'm sure it was more of a drooling adventure than what I remember now. Dreams fade so quickly.

After waking up I thought the whole dream was hilarious! I was starving and it was almost 10 AM!!! My body was trying to tell me to get up and eat something, stupid. It wanted a big juicy hamburger.

Hubby and I are into the first two weeks of the South Beach Diet and no snacking at night after dinner at 8ish PM so I woke up extremely hungry. I'm surprised I could sleep that long on an empty stomach!

My husband says the first thing he wants after losing twenty pounds is some of I HOP's french toast that's been melting all over the TV lately. With lots of butter and syrup and a hamburger on the side, please and thank you! Yum yum.

 Autumn Age

As I open the waiting door
And gaze out over the view
Of the autumn of my life
I see me and I see you

With bright sunlight wrapping
Around each special day
And bold colors saturating
The hues along the way

I see echoes of laughter
While still playing the game
Anticipating the warm embraces
I pray my life will stay the same

I step out of the door
Into my fresh fall morning.........

FFF: Fresher Than a Bag of California Spinach!

1. My state, North Carolina, ranks 40th in life expectancy with 75.8 years. Poor white women in Nebraska live the longest with 81.8 years. My plans are to live to the over-ripe and pruney age of 120!

2. Japan has the most people over age 100 and it's growing faster. Why? --- is what I want to know. Their oldest lady is 113 years old --- maybe I should move there to gain a few extra years? I might have a hard time fooling Father Time with my blond hair and green eyes though.

3 Which brings us to birthdays. Heart attacks occur more frequently on birthdays than any other days of the year! Wow, it must be from all that huffing and puffing. I did get dizzy blowing out the candles on my last birthday cake!

4. The Dutch are the world's tallest. A few hundred years ago they were as short as everyone else, but now most men are 6 feet and women are 5'7". What have they done differently? I've always wanted to be taller --- nope, I'm getting shorter instead.

5. Agroterrorism? I wish I hadn't heard this new word, but after the problems with bagged spinach this past week, there was talk about how easy it would be for terrorists to spread something nationwide via our crops. Yikes! Another thing to worry about as we all try harder to eat right so we can live longer.

~~~~ Have a super healthy weekend, Streamers! ~~~ Cyberhugs, Rita B
