Momma Never Told Me

 Pop Quiz for Sitcom Dads

Just when you thought it was safe to relax and enjoy the bloggers again --- POP goes the quiz!!!  Last week we had the Sitcom Moms and two Streamers won the coveted title of "Teacher's Pet" --- Sherry & the Prankster!

So listen up Madie and Heide!  Don't make me come back there and break you two girls up.  Stop that note passing and giggling.

Miss Spankhooter, you're late again!

What do you have in that wiggling backpack, Scratch?  Bring it up here right now.  Raven, sit down on the front row, please, so I can keep an eye on you!

This week's quiz is to identify these Sitcom Daddies by actor's name and show:

Winners will receive the special "Couch Potato" Award in addition to the envy of all the Streamers who give a royal flip.

Good luck from your beloved control freakin' teacher,

Miss Rita B

This picture of the actor, John Payne, is dedicated to Donuts. Enjoy, my dear!

 Bad Money

Can money be dirty?

I'm not talking about all the gross stuff they find sticking to paper money and coins, but I'm wondering about money won through a state lottery or by some other game of chance.

Someone in our small town recently won $800,000 in the new state education lottery. Hooray, right? Well, no, not for them because they have found out that their Baptist church refused to accept their tithe --- $80,000!!! --- from their winnings. Many people are giving them a hard time. It's gambling money, they say, and it's not allowed!

Most religious denominations frown on gambling, our church does too, and I can understand why. Still I buy an occasional raffle, lottery, or fund-raising ticket for a drawing. Bingo is lots of fun too! I don't see anything wrong with these activities. Sometimes the only difference is they call it by another name.

To me, money can't be bad. It is a tool that our civilization uses to get things done.

Think of all the money and stuff that the law enforcement officials confiscate each year from criminals. All the wealth from these resources can and usually is changed to do something good. Should it be destroyed instead? Can inanimate objects, including money, be bad? I don't think so. It comes down to what a person does to get those ill-gotten gains. Criminals are bad, but someone who buys a legal ticket to the state approved lottery is not.

If I ever win a pot of money at rainbow's end, I would love to help someone, my church and/or a charity for the needy. To me, people are the root of all evil, but money can be used for good.

 Just Another Day of Rest?

The United States of America isn't the only country to have a holiday to honor the working people. Our Labor Day is always the first Monday in September and heralds the beginning of the falling leaves of autumn. And the end of summer vacation as school always started the next day. It used to be the day we packed away our white shoes!

My husband and I have never been into the celebration, other than enjoying a day off, and now that we are both retired, it still seems just like any other day to us. That is the worse thing I can say about retirement!!! Although, without all those laborers, the United States of America would be nothing! So to all you hard working people, THANKS and enjoy your day off dreaming about the freedom you'll enjoy in your future retirement.
