In the current Entertainment Weekly magazine, it says that "frizzy" is in!!! I knew if I lived long enough it would be back in style. It was just a matter of time for this old hippy-chick.

The 60's was the closest I got --- with it's free-flowing hairdos and afros. I was too white for the latter and too much of a lemming for the first. After years of gel, mousse, and blow-drying to tame the friz, I can relax and just let it be!

Originally this holiday was established to celebrate the birthday of George W. our first president.

An earth prayer book says this day is for "acknowledging the importance of leadership for a healthy planet." For many of the world's leaders, I think the planet is the last thing they think about when making decisions regarding their countries and its resources.

Probably, our country's thoughts drift more towards money and commerce, because in the US, this day is known for its gigantic sales! Shop... shop... shop. Shop till you drop! Pop out to the mall and shop! Shop for the economy! Shop for a stronger American! Buy bonds..... oops, wrong campaign!

Even the government is giving us more money so we can keep on shopping. That's right! What better way to honor our Past Presidents than to spend some Dead Presidents, eh, Streamers?

It's a great combination of money & politics, but I think I'll just hang out at home with my hubby.

Our church sends Christmas cards to a home for retired missionaries. Last month I got a thank you note from someone who had received my card. Miss Laura had written her greetings on this World Peace Prayer postcard. I have read it often and today is a good Sunday to pass on its wisdom.

On the back of the card it states:

The day before Valentine's Day, I received my first Social Security check! Yeah, boy, I am officially OLD.

I really don't mind --- I've earned it --- but I just want to say "Thank You!" to all those paying into Social Security today and in the future. No matter what the nay-sayers say, it's not a bad system. Just don't count on it for ALL of your retirement as the good life gets more expensive each year.
